“Feminism and women’s rights under attack!” was the motto of a well-attended event hosted by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. This year, Germany is commemorating the centennial of women’s suffrage in a multitude of ways. But what appears natural to many these days only exists because women have fought for relentlessly over and over again. In America, Africa, Asia, and also in Europe, women are experiencing setbacks/backlashes in terms of gender justice ranging from hate campaigns to anti-feminism and even murder – it is impossible to overlook the attacks on women and their rights. Women from Jordan, Kenya, Cuba, India, and Germany together with the audience discussed the situation of women in the various regions of the world, and the issues where change is needed the most. The discussion focused on what kind of strategies would be needed to successfully secure a better situation for women.
